Creative writing workshop - developing a narrative
Work on creating a compelling narrative with Mary Allen, designer of our 4 creative writing workshops for 2025. Mary has worked in the arts all her life, initially as an actor and subsequently as Chief Executive to Arts Council England and The Royal Opera House. She started writing fifteen years ago, drafting several novels and many poems. She is a graduate of the prestigious MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia, where some our greatest contemporary novelists Including Ian McEwan, Anne Enright and Stephen Fry honed their craft.
She has recently written a pamphlet of poems about her experience of stopping the Royal Opera House from going bankrupt - which was Highly Commended in the 2023 Interactional Pamphlet Competition. She lives in both Brighton and Aldeburgh, and has started leading creative writing workshops for writers of all levels of experience.

Photography Retrospective
Amedeo Castellani’s career retrospective will be a highlight of the Barn Space’s 2025 event schedule. The work of this internationally renowned photographer will showcase his portfolio, starting at the heart of Cinecittà, the Italian film studios famous for producing Ben Hur and Cleopatra in the 1950s and ‘60s, and moving through London and Paris to his most recent collection of Suffolk based artists and artisans.

Yoga and relaxation
This yoga class, led by Lois, is designed to help you relax and quiet the mind, build the foundations for a strong and supple body, and feel balanced in both mind and body. Each session includes breathwork, insight into the meaning of yoga, postures to promote balance, strength, and flexibility, as well as relaxation and meditation. Perfect for beginners, no prior yoga experience is necessary, and postures can be adapted to suit all abilities.

Creative writing workshop - sense of an ending; writing a successful conclusion
Endings are difficult – will it be the resolution that answers the reader’s questions, ambiguity that keeps the reader guessing, or an epilogue hinting at future fates? Mary Allen will guide you through the options and open up different possibilities.
